Ted Brewer
Ted operates Brewer Designs Ltd.
in Lyman, WA. After graduating
from the Westlawn School of Yacht
Design, Ted worked with A.E. (Bill)
Luders Jr. in Stamford. Conn. as
assistant designer working on many
5.5 metre sloop designs and assisting
in the conversion of the 12 metre
yacht WEATHERLY for the successful
1962 America’s Cup defense.
Working
in Maine in partnership with Bob
Wallstrom, he produced over 100
custom and production designs. One
of these designs was the 55’ aluminum
ketch MYSTIC which placed second
in class in the 1969 Trans-Pac
race with Ted aboard.
In 1979, Ted moved to
Washington State where he produced
160 more designs ranging from a
small dinghy to a 45’ Boston pilot schooner
yacht, the beautiful Whitby 55
ketch and the powerful 68’ schooner
TREE OF LIFE which was named by
Sail magazine as one of the “100
Greatest Yachts in America.” Ted
has designed over 260 vessels,
written three books and contributed
many articles to numerous boating
magazines. He is a charter
member of the Society of Boat and
Yacht Designers and as a sailor
has raced in many parts of the
world.
