annual Classic Boat Festival
is the sailboat race held every
year on the Sunday afternoon.
Many of the owners of these
beautiful classic boats are
avid sailboat racers.

Eligibility: Open only to boats registered
at Classic Boat Festival®.
Skippers Meeting: 0900 hrs Sunday, below Information
Centre on the Lower Causeway.
Handicapping: TBA.
Location of Start Line: The start line
will be near the Navy “Degaussing Buoys”. After
passing the Salute Vessel (HMCS Oriole) proceed
southerly out of the harbour and then go approximately 2.5 miles
due west (250 magnetic). You will have a 1 knot current
against you at this time.
Identification: All boats to pass by
Committee Boat, New Seeker prior to start to
be identified.
Hail
your vessel name please.
Start Box: Div 2 & 3 cannot enter
the area 50 meters behind the start line until 1300 hrs.
Start Timing (GPS Time). Timings will also
be called on VHF Ch 9.

Start
Line: Between
the MAST of the Committee Boat and the grey degaussing buoy that is closest
to and north of the Committee Boat.
Finish Line: The Committee Boat will
set a line across the entrance to the outer harbour near the
breakwater and before the cruise ship docks. You will receive
a “horn” to signal your finish.
Over Early: Boats over early will be
hailed (voice & VHF 9) and must re-cross completely over
the start line and restart (around an end or through the middle). Boats
over early must keep clear of other boats.

”VH” is
also known as “ the Quarantine Buoy”
Alternative Course: If weather conditions permit, the course may be lengthened. This information will be given to Skippers at the Skippers Meeting.
Shorten Course: There is limited ability to shorten course. If weather conditions indicate that the race will not be completed, competitors should listed to VHF Channel 9 for alternatives.
Postponement: The Committee Boat will
fly code flag “AP” and make 2 sound signals. The
Warning Signal will be 1 minute after removal of flag with sound.
Abandonment: The Committee Boat will
fly code flag “AP” and make a series of sound
signals. All competitors return to your slip at the
Classic Boat Festival® docks.
Withdrawal: Notify the Committee Boat
by hailing, or on VFH Ch 9.
Time Limit: 1600 hours for all boats. Boats
not finished will be scored “Did Not Finish”.
Protests: This is a fun race. There
will be no protests. Yachts making an infraction are encouraged
to make a 360-degree turn to exonerate yourself.
Tides & Currents: TBA
There is a flood current during the race. Flood is stronger
at “VH”.
Safety: The safety of the yacht and her
crew is the sole responsibility of the skipper. It is the
skipper’s sole decision to sail or to continue sailing.
Awards: First place plaques will be awarded
in all 4 divisions at the Sunday evening banquet.

the Breakwater -- Outer Harbour – HMCS Oriole
At the Request of the Harbour Master:

Please leave 5 yellow markers close to PORT.

Sailboats are not to raise sails until opposite West Bay.
